Almost everyone has heard of Initiative 1648. There is a grass-roots campaign to get this initiative on the ballot. But time is running out to get signatures in, so I wanted to send out this reminder to get your signed petitions mailed by the end of this week. If you live near the Capitol, you can drop it off in person at the Secretary of State’s office before July 5th. In case this is the first you have heard of this initiative – what is I-1648? This past legislative session, the Democrats raised taxes by over $25 Billion Dollars (the figure is based on the Office of Financial Management – OFM’s – calculations). They also refused to put these increased taxes on the ballot, so I-1648 was born. This initiative will require all taxes to expire after one year unless the people vote on the them. The first taxes to expire will be the $25 Billion of taxes that were voted in this year. Here is a link to download the petition. https://permanentoffense.com/petition-download/ Put the pdf on a thumb drive and take it to your local copy store (I made mine at Staples, but any place that makes copies will do – 35 cents or less) and get it printed. It must be double-sided, and it must be printed on 11×17 paper. No other option will qualify. Get signatures from friends and family, fold it up and send it in! The signatures must be from registered voters. The petition must be signed and turned in by July 5th, so it should be mailed in by the end of this week to be sure that it gets there on time – I’d do it by Thursday, June 27th, just to be sure. Even if you have only one signature, get it in an envelope an send it to Permanent Offense, PO Box 6151, Olympia, WA 98507. Here is a link to the Facebook page for I-1648. You can get information about where petitions are located throughout the state. But bear in mind, this is grass roots. That means that you and I have to do this. There are some paid signature gatherers, but it truly is up to us to get this done. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1401613029991230/ And here is a page that has the petition and a lot of banners and signs you can use to help people understand what the initiative is all about. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1401613029991230/files/ I am not sure if you need to be a member of Facebook to get access to this. I am both a Facebook member and I’ve liked the page, so if this doesn’t work for you and you need a flyer, let me know and I’ll send you a PDF of whichever flyer you need. Some locations to sign the petition are on the following site. https://www.lspac.org/locations?fbclid=IwAR12Z_XRaQCi8GqIpdZJes5uVSJOzT1AjnWZbMtYGEcsTANJ5LbDbwRM4WA The list is not exhaustive, but there are a lot of places you can sign. If you don’t have one near you, get one printed out, and add your signature along with as many others as you can by Thursday. But the most important thing is to get it in the mail. Even if your signature is the only one there, get it sent in. Those signatures don’t help anyone sitting at home! Thanks so much for all your help. This really has been an amazing process, and the grass roots effort has been incredible. Best regards, ~Ruth Peterson, Boistfort PCO |
